habiTECH Project: Week 1

The Hargrove Family
This week our studio met with the family for the first time. The family includes Ms Laquanta Hargrove, Clifton Hargrove, Jasmine Dodson, and Terrance Dodson. The family was also accompanied by the grandmother. She helped the kids explain in better detail what they wanted in their home.

Jasmine (15)
  • Likes to wear jewelry, possibly needing a vanity to hold jewelry, makeup, ect.
  • Colors: pink and purple
  • She would like to have a ceiling fan included in her room.
  •  Lots of closet space, possibly built in shelving unit.
  •  She likes her privacy when it comes to her living space.

Clifton (16)
  •         Enjoys sports, especially basket ball
  •             Colors: red and black
  •             He is a Hornets and Jets fan
  •             Possibly incorporating a sports theme

Terrance (14)
  •             Also enjoys playing basket ball
  •             Colors: blue and black
  •             He is a Lakers fan

Ms Laquanta
  •            Works as a cook at South Parkway Church
  •            Colors: camel and green
  •            She would like lots of closet space in her room
  •            We will be including a half bath in her room as well
  •             She would like to be separated from the kids room
  •             During the summer she likes to have plenty of cross ventilation
  •            She enjoys being outside but does not like high maintenance gardening

Elements To Consider Concerning The Family’s Specific Needs
  1.       .       A “family room” is needed so that the kids can do their homework and provides the family with a gathering space.
  2.       .       Noise is a possible problem when planning out the bedrooms; Ms Laquanta would like to be further away from the kids’ rooms.
  3.      .        The kitchen needs to have plenty of preparation space for Ms Laquanta to cook.
  4.       .       Jasmine requires additional space for medical equipment
  5.              The family expresses a dislike for carpet and would like wood/ tile floors.
