Porch Construction Part II

 Loading wood into Johns "car"

Located under this treated 2x4 is an anchor bolt. In order to conceal the bolt we hollowed out part of the 2x4 and placed it on top.

Each screw is recessed into the wood. Later we will apply wood putty to fill in the holes.

The treated 4x4 is bolted into the front of the house.

Porch Construction

At the shop John and I set up to bend rebar for the footings.

Each corner is bent to form a rounded 90 degree angle.

John is heating up the rebar with the torch.

The footings for the trellis.

Each 4x4 post is equipped with a metal clip in order to secure the headers.

A 4x4 post is attached to the side of the house by several bolts.

This is the technique for notching out the rafter spanning across the porch. Once the rafter is notched out we can put in the 2x6 boards for the overhang.
